Join us to hear Steph Bradley's enlightening research findings on the impact of symptoms of perimenopause and menopause on women riders.
Steph's research was undertaken as part of her MSc and British Equestrian Level 4 Coach programme, which resulted in a phenomenal 1629 women equestrians responding within 16 days, and highlighted the common and not so common symptoms that so many women do not know enough about - and could be better prepared for. Especially if they are active equestrians!
"As a coach and a saddle fitter, I was observing a distinct trend of behaviours and issues in women 35 plus, and this made me curious to learn more. The findings were astounding. The research has won three First Prizes at academic conferences concerning Women in Sport."
The evening will be an opportunity to raise awareness of this very normal life stage, and hopefully keep more women in the saddle for longer! It’s also relevant for anyone connected to a female equestrian but especially riders themselves, yard owners, vets, physios and coaches. Steph will signpost ideas for support and guidance, and be available to answer any questions afterwards.
Steph Bradley is a British Equestrian Level 4 Coach & a SMS Master Saddle Fitter. She is currently undertaking a doctoral research programme investigating the impact of the climacteric on female equestrian participation and performance. She recently guested on the popular equestrian podcast Shut up and Ride.
Drinks will be available to purchase on the evening.
As a group of coaches in Jersey we are collaborating to help to support our Jersey Junior Riders.
We will be starting with the Glitter Star and Bronze Star Awards that will be launched in October 2025.
Through BSJA Academy we will be offering specific training sessions throughout the year to cover all aspects of the awards and they will be signed off by the listed coaches in designated sessions.
This will include lots of theory and practical sessions that will be fun, interesting and will develop riders knowledge and skill.
To complete each award, riders will be required to compete through BSJA, Pony Club, Jersey Dressage Club, or BD Youth Jersey.
The theory will be the same for all riders, but the ridden section can be discipline specific. Level of competition will be specific to the award and riders will be supported to achieve the following:
Showjumping - 4 x Double Clears
Dressage -4 x tests at 62% or over
Eventing - 1 x dressage test at 62% or over, 1 x double clear showjumping, 1 x clear cross-country or arena eventing, 1 free choice in any of the disciplines.
For any juniors that do not own or loan ponies we welcome them to join all the dismounted sessions and obviously there is an option just to complete the theory sections of the awards.

Drag hunting season usually starts in mid-October and continues through autumn and winter, finishing in the spring. If you wish to avoid jumping there is nearly always a way around. When the hunt is mid-season we may not have a line suitable for the novice – a notice will be placed on the website under the relevant line. We suggest you do the sponsored ride, picnic ride and then the cubbing lines, as a great way to ease you and your horse into hunting.
